Welcome to
Charley's and Heidi's corner of the web!
Charley and Heidi live in
Raleigh, NC, and have been here for over 10 years.
Charley enjoys working
for John Montgomery Violins, making and restoring
violins, violas and cellos. Here are some instruments Charley has made.
Another talent Charley has is cooking, and his jambalaya recipe is always a big hit at
parties. He enjoys playing old-time music with some friends on a
regular basis, and they're so good they get asked to play gigs now and
then. You can check them out at the Southern String Band's
website.
After Heidi left Saint
Mary's School as their full time technology coordinator, she struck
out on her own in 2001 and has been a computer consultant ever since. She
enjoys the variety in her schedule, and is much happier helping
multiple clients. Heidi keeps busy with her music, too, singing
on Thursday mornings with her SSA choral group, the Cardinal Singers, and
various evenings with friends, singing folk-rock and
playing guitar.
We both love to go to
tropical locations for our vacations, and have enjoyed St. John (USVI) for years. We
went there on our honeymoon in 1997, and have been going back almost
every year since! We have been to other places -- we went to the Abacos in the Bahamas in 2003, and
stayed at a really cool efficiency motel called the Lofty Fig.
In
2005 we decided to go to Aruba.
Windsurfing
is king there, and they do have beautiful beaches.
And in 2008 we met up with Miles
and Bonnie and went to Great Exuma
in the Bahamas.
In addition, we like to take motorcycle trips, and rode the bikes to
the mountains
in September of 2005. That was a lot of fun, and certainly our
longest ride so far. An update -- Heidi moved up to a Kawasaki
Vulcan 900 (Fall 2009), and Charley has moved up to a Yamaha VStar 950 (March
2010). In April 2010 we had a wonderful ride
to Oriental, NC, near the coast.
Heidi's favorite place (besides beautiful tropical islands?) is Camp Greystone, where she
spent over 20 summers as a camper and counselor, and has been recently
going back to be a counselor at Jr. Camp. It was also the site of
our wedding in September 1997, as you see in one of our miscellaneous
photos.
In December of 2005 we decided to put an addition
on our house, as it was feeling cramped (around 1100 sq. ft.), and we
couldn't afford a bigger one in our neighborhood, which we love!
So, we hired a contractor, who started in March of 2006 and said he'd
have it done by June 5, 2006. He was going along at a great pace,
but then the project stalled. Long story short, he finally
completed it in April of 2007 (sigh). But, even though it took
WAY too long to get it done, we sure love the additional 450 sq. ft.,
including a new master bathroom.
A brief plug: If
you are paying more than 3.5 cents per minute on long distance, you
should check this page out.
They also offer cell phone service,
calling cards, and Internet service at a discount.
Also, I've seen too many computers crash and the owners not have
adequate backups. Finally there is a secure, unlimited amount, online backup
option for
only $5.00/month! That's an incredible deal! You can backup
your "My Documents" (including valuable pictures), and any other files,
including e-mail. I signed up immediately! Here
are the details.
